Come on a journey through words, languages and meanings. Can we find out what bullying really means?
Bullying does not translate neatly into one shared word or one shared idea. That matters, because the words we use can affect what we notice, how we describe it and where we draw the boundary around bullying.
Across the research behind this site we found many terms that overlap with bullying, but they do not all mean the same thing. Some place more emphasis on exclusion, ridicule, humiliation, harassment, intimidation, initiation or physical violence. Others sit much closer to the broad English idea of bullying.
Why we made this map
A simple translation list would flatten those differences. We built The Bullying Metro to make the overlaps visible without pretending that one word in one language is automatically the direct equivalent of another. The lines show broad families of meaning. Interchanges show where a term genuinely connects with more than one family.

How to use the map
